Sony Steps Up

Real Life Conference Title Sponsor is Sony

Strong connections are helping evolve the photography industry. This partnership is proof.

At Real Life we take pride in finding partners that empower female photographers to continue to explore and expand on their art. Our community is powerful. We are knowledgeable. We love to push the limits of our gear. We know that what we contribute has impact.

With that in mind, we are thrilled to announce this new partnership with Sony. Real Life meets Alpha Female.

Sony is listening. They see us as we see ourselves: valued, unique, powerful creators who happen to be female.

Sony has thoughtfully responded to the imaging industry’s well-known challenges with diversity and has embraced the uniqueness of female photographers by creating a female-specific mentorship program. The Alpha Female Creator-in-Residence program grants five female photographers $25,000 in funds, $5,000 in gear, an additional $5,000 in product loans, and a mentorship pairing with one of Sony’s high-profile Artisans of Imagery. Applications to the program are open through October 7, 2018. The five winners will be announced at the beginning of November.

Sony’s goal is simple, yet powerful: to help women photographers and videographers take their careers to the next level.

Taking it a step further, Sony is supporting female-backed and -focused events, including the Real Life Conference. They are sending Alpha Female representatives to the conference to speak and connect with attendees. And everyone will have a chance to win a Sony Alpha camera system.

Sony is aligned with the five pillars of the Real Life Mission, listed below. Empowering female photographers means leaning in to better understand our needs as creators and customers. It’s exciting to have a global company get the distinction and become a supporting contributor to making the Real Life Conference happen this year.

The future is female.

Real Life Mission — Five Pillars

Initiate and guide dialogues about women and marginalized groups in photography
Starting a dialogue on a hard topic isn’t easy. Which is exactly why it’s essential that it is done. We aim to push progress for diversity in photography and elevate women and marginalized photographers voices.

Prioritize in-person connections, annual conference, world-wide events, and mentorships
If every woman helped just one other woman, we would be that much closer to breaking the cycle of inequality. The value of in-person connections, mentorships, and events is immeasurable. And because of that, it’s vital.

Inspire and collaborate to serve the greater good through photography
Rolling up sleeves, digging in, creating tools, inspiring others, working together. These are the tenets of this community. Strong as one. Stronger together.

Choose courage over comfort and respectfully challenging inner bias
Facing oneself is hard and can be painful but the opportunity for tremendous growth is worth the effort. With compassion we respectfully challenge ourselves and meet others where they are.

Strive to grow and learn as artists, business people, and humans
Creating a safe space to learn and grow is an invaluable tool. Encouraging women to be artists and entrepreneurs is a win for everyone.
